March 1, 2021
Wendy Thomas: Rob Gardenhire, VP of Resource Development, Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits, firstname.lastname@example.org 918-340-7053
Kristin Maun: Identifying donors whose mission relates to ours
Omare Jimmerson: Use relationships as you mentioned
Madison Curley: 990s are helpful to identify if you align with an org’s funding
Andrea Pemberton: love the holiday mailing list idea!
Brandi Ross: Utilizing Social Media Groups to gain interest
M. Elizabeth Battiest: Hosting Meet and Greets
Adrienne Yandell: Government programs / RFP’s — usually for larger orgs or once you’re at a growth stage.
Andrea Pemberton: if you have alumni of programs, tag them! create a campaign, LT is the master at this!
William Hadley: Wear the logo gear of the organization…then be open to telling the org story
Thomas Occhipinti: Maybe not a direct “donation” but sometimes beneficial to ask a similar org/donor to match a particular grant
Madison Curley: Facility tours!
Andrea Pemberton: +1 @madison curley
Wendy Thomas: Experiencing the mission – facility tours – invite them to attend an event or program together – great ideas
Kristin Maun: Sending thank you notes
Kristin Maun: Public thank you’s on social media
Frances Dodson: Recognizing them at the annual fundraiser.
Adrienne Yandell: Invitations to celebrations (graduations for education programs)
Melanie Nguyen (she/her/hers): Culture of gratitude, as you all mentioned previously!
William Hadley: Always say thanks! Write a note, take them to an event to see how their funds are being used
Wendy Thomas: Yes, fun social media is a nice way of recognizing
M. Elizabeth Battiest: Org sent nice wines to members and then hosted a Zoom meeting Happy Hour.
Wendy Thomas: Love that Eliz!
Andrea Pemberton: provide opportunities for funders or members of their companies/orgs to participate in your programming/speaking engagements etc
Wendy Thomas: Some “facetime” for the corporate leaders is helpful for corporate giving
Wendy Thomas: “Prospects” are typically those individuals who might give but are not yet giving
Wendy Thomas: Shared mission and interest
Trey Henderson: To that point, Wendy, how do you and Rob have dealt with donor fatigue? I have experienced this as a donor to some certain nonprofits
Andrea Pemberton: Another thought on identifying potential donors; (depending on the relationship) ask current donors if they are aware of any other businesses or individuals who also support the mission that might be interested in contributing as well. Especially in Tulsa, people will point you to other options you may not have considered before. Plus it has the benefit of amplifying their existing donation.
Wendy Thomas: 8-12 touches a year – but not 8 – 12 asks haha
Wendy Thomas: Make it about the donor
Trey Henderson: It does – thank you!
Madison Curley: I think we’ve seen the biggest shift in foundations going off their funding schedule due to giving to the highest need in response to COVID.
Wendy Thomas: ‘would you consider ….
Matt McAfee: Great job, thank you!
Madison Curley: This was really helpful! Lots of ideas to try.
Dillon Hargrave: Yes, great job!
